Babywearing
The
concept of babywearing dates back to the first mothers and babies that walked
on our earth and is still practiced widely in many natural cultures around
the world. In the west this knowledge is having a resurgence as more and more
parents discover the many benefits of babywearing.
A baby learns about our world and their place in it through the senses of
touch and smell and through a strong bonding relationship to her parents.
When you wear your baby in an Mbeleko sling you encourage this bond and build
a strong sensitivity to baby's needs through the close and constant contact.
Babywearing
stimulates a womb like environment that helps
to calm and soothe baby and reduce her stress levels
making her less colicky and fussy.
It has been proven that
babywearing stimulates your baby's physical development. When
worn in a sling, baby is in tune with your breathing, heartbeat and the movement
of your body. This helps to stimulate and exercise baby's vestibular system,
which controls balance.
Slings
like the Mbeleko are extremely beneficial for premature babies.
These babies are healthier and gain weight faster
the more they are touched and held. Wearing your baby in a sling can also
help you grieve for a hastily ended pregnancy, being womb reminiscent for
you and baby alike.
Using an Mbeleko leaves
your arms free and distributes weight across your
shoulder and back, taking pressure of your arms. Having your arms free allows
you the freedom to get all your errands done. Hanging out the washing, shopping
and housework can be done with ease.
Carried babies are more alert. Babies
in-arms are mostly in a quiet alert state of consciousness, enabling them
to learn and absorb new information more readily. Babywearing helps to integrate
baby into the daily life of family and community, providing a tremendous educational
advantage. Babies that are worn experience the world with Mum or Dad, learning
critical social and communication skills firsthand and observing their surroundings
from a safe vantage point.
Babywearing allows you to breastfeed with ease and discretion
whenever and wherever your baby is hungry - no need
to race off to the parents rooms or the car. With baby in sling you can even
feed whilst walking or in the supermarket queue.
Toddlers love slings. Not only do they
provide a safe place for your toddler to retreat
to and are very calming for an over stimulated child, they offer you an great
way of knowing where your toddler is in busy situations. You
can wear a child up to 15 kilos in an Mbeleko
Slings are great for bonding with baby for Dad, Grandparents and other caregivers.
Cuddling up close in a sling is a wonderful
way to get to know the baby in your life, and for
that baby to get to know you.
Forget bulky strollers and prams, slings
make travel on public transport so much easier - no more wrestling through
crowds and hefting a heavy stroller up and down stairs or in and out of the
car boot.
Slung babies are happier,
cry less and are less colicky and fussy in the first three months of life.
It's easier to get exercise with baby in an Mbeleko,
be it dancing around the living room or a brisk walk, - great ways to put
baby to sleep.
Wearing your baby keeps them protected and safe from
unwanted touches and the germs and bugs of winter.
